Heroes of the Faith

We all need heroes and this is the season TRUE heroes are being exposed.  The spotlight has been taken off of movie stars, athletes, singers and high-profile people.  It has been put on everyday people who in the face of danger, continue to put their lives at risk to help others and make a difference in the world.

Although we need heroes in the natural, we also need heroes of faith.  After all, when this life is all said and done, where we spend eternity is a much longer time than our lives here on earth.  This is just a dress rehearsal.

All around us, people have lost their faith.  Everywhere we go, whether naturally or virtually, we are confronted with faithless people with no purpose or vision, other than the temporal life we have been given.  Although this life can sometimes be great, I wouldn’t want to think this is all there is.

Now faith brings our hopes into reality and becomes the foundation needed to acquire the things we long for.  It is all the evidence required to prove what is still unseen.

Hebrews 11:1

This is where our spiritual heroes enter the picture. Beginning with Jesus, the greatest hero of all time.

We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection.  His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be His, He endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation.

Hebrews 12:2

Not only do we have Jesus as our PERFECT hero, we have heroes of the faith, as a great cloud of witnesses

Faith opened Noah’s heart to receive revelation and warnings from God about what was coming.- Hebrews 11:7

Faith motivated Abraham to obey God’s call and leave the familiar to discover the territory he was destined to inherit from God. - Hebrews 11:8

Faith prompted the parents of Moses at his birth to hide him for 3 months. - Hebrews 11:23

Faith enabled Moses to choose God’s will, for although he was raised as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, he refused to make that his identity - Hebrews 11:24

Faith opened the way for the Hebrews to cross the Red Sea as if on dry land, but when the Egyptians tried to cross, they were swallowed up and drowned! - Hebrews 11:29

Faith pulled down Jericho’s walls after the people marched around them for 7 days. Hebrews 11:30

Faith provided a way of escape for Rahab the prostitute, avoiding the destruction of the unbelievers because she received the Hebrew spies in peace. Hebrews 11:31

Through faith’s power, these champions conquered kingdoms and established true justice.  Their faith fastened onto their promises and pulled them into reality!  Although weak, their faith imparted power to make them strong!  Faith sparked courage within them and they became mighty warriors in battle, pulling armies from another realm into battle array. - Hebrews 11: 33-34

Lord, we thank you for the gift of faith that you have given us.  As we enter this Hebrew month of Sivan, we will do so with great faith and expectation as to what You are about to do this Pentecost season.

It will be like no other.

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.
